The objective of the EuroSDR Mobile Mapping – Road Environment Mapping using Mobile Laser Scanning project was to evaluate the quality, accuracy, and feasibility of mobile laser scanning (MLS) systems and methods. Prior to this study, there have been only a few studies that have focused on MLS comprehensively in combination with test fields, and even fewer where system performance has been examined using an established high-quality test field and where the results have been analyzed by an independent actor. So far seven systems have been benchmarked; two research systems by FGI and five commercial systems including Riegl, Optech and Streetmapper system.
