The Ubiquitous Positioning (UbiPos) group of FGI has been researching on indoor/outdoor seamless locating solutions and human mobility contexts with varying sensing technologies such as low cost motion sensors (e.g. accelerometers, gyroscopes, digital compass, barometers), signal of opportunities (e.g. WiFi, Bluetooth, DTV, FM, RFID, sound, GNSS’s), and other emerging sensors such as electromyography (EMG).

Achievements in UbiPos group include best student papers in ION GNSS+ 2013 Nashville, US (Robert Guinness), ION GNSS 2012 Nashville, US (Laura Ruotsalainen) and ION GNSS 2010, Portland, US, (Wei Chen). The group has also gained a best paper of Track A in the ION/IEEE PLANS 2010 conference (Yuwei Chen), winner of the student grant to participate in the IEEE International conference on Instrumentation and Measurement Technology, 2010, Austin, Texas (Wei Chen), best student paper of 2008 of the International Association of the Chinese Professionals in Global Positioning Systems (Jiangping Deng) and best thesis of 2007 of the Finnish Association of Geodesy (Ziyin Li).
